The Tilbury Band
The Learners’ Ensemble is directed by Mr. David Klein and Miss Andrea Lewis, two extremely competent musicians who have a keen interest in all things Brass. They are backed in their provisions of music by a number of members of the Tilbury Band’s Main (or ‘Senior’) Band, who assist by instructing and ‘sitting-in’ during rehearsal to help build confidence of those less experienced in playing.
The philosophy of The Tilbury Band is one of lifelong learning and former musical director of the Learners’ Ensemble, Mrs. Rosemary Mann stated that the name was changed from the ‘Tilbury Junior Band’ to reflect that, as musicians, we are all learners and that learning is something which we all do, every day, in whatever walk of life we follow.
As an organisation, we understand that the provision of instrumental instruction in schools is not always what it could or should be. With inhibitive pricing on tuition and instrumental hire charges, we feel that students (of any age) who are willing to learn should be given the opportunity to learn. Our youngest playing member is just 5 years old, with our oldest being near to 75.
